Empty Houses

Empty Houses
Sometimes I feel like I’m dying
And sometimes I feel like I’m dead
And some nights I smother my feelings
Or I choke on some words that I’ve said
And everyone says that they love you
But no one is there when you call
The world is as big as this bedroom
And it’s only me that is small
Empty houses were made to haunt
We’re all good men when we get what we want
Everyone’s haunted by something
Fettered in chains they can’t break
Was it a word you can’t take back?
Or a chance that you just couldn’t take?
So many ghosts in this graveyard
Dragging the past by a chain
Scared to death just of living
Crippled by heartache and shame
Empty Houses were meant to haunt
You get experience when you don’t get what you want
Whistle your way past the graveyard
Dragging your past by a chain
Scared to death just of living
Crippled by heartache and shame
Everyone says that they love you
But no one is there when you call
The world is as big as you make it
It’s only our fear makes it small.
Empty Houses were meant to haunt
You get experience when you don’t get what you want
I sit around this empty house with my experience
Just the two of us...the rest is silence

Burn Black in the Sun

Burn Black in the Sun
There’s a knife under the bed
To cut the pain in half
I see crosses by the roadside
And it always makes me laugh
There’s nothing superstitious
In wanting to believe
That something out there feels it
If I live or laugh or grieve
I burn black in the sun
Reaching for the sky
Fall back to earth
That’s where I’ll go when I die
Got a bag full of mojo
For all the good it gives
I found God in a freak-show
With no power to forgive
There’s something disingenuous
In wanting to believe
That something out there notices
If I stay or if I leave
I burn black in the sun
Reaching for the sky
Fall back to earth
That’s where I’ll go when I die
I live in a graveyard
Of beauty raw sublime
With chiaroscuro cenotaphs
Of gorgeous, loving crime
There’s something quite pretentious
In needing to believe
The One who holds me in its hand
Has nothing up his sleeve
I burn black in the sun
Reaching for the sky
Fall back to earth
That’s where I’ll go when I die
I burn black in the sun
Reaching for the sky
Fall back to earth
That’s where I’ll go when I die

Murder Drinking

Murder Drinking
There’s nothing you can teach me ‘bout the bending of the wrist
Drink myself to sleep each night and always wake up pissed
I prefer to view the world through the bottom of a glass
Obliterate the future while I forget the past
Hammered-stammered-legless-in my cups
Scarred and mangled, tip, tip, tip it up
Murder drinking! Murder drinking!
Murder drinking! Murder drinking!
Drink to kill the pain, drink to forget
Drink to all your reasons, there’s your reason not to quit
Drink to all the dreams that you lost along the way
Drink up another night and sleep through another day
Battered-gattered, three sheets to the wind
In the horrors, piss-drunk and wrecked again
Murder drinking! Murder drinking!
Murder drinking! Murder drinking!
Did I have a family once? I cannot recall
They got tired of waiting up for me until last call
I drank through all my friends so now I’m drinking by myself
I’ve got all the friends I need there on the bottom shelf
Trashed and troubled, tore up and tanked and stewed
Twisted, blotto, blitzed and bombed and screwed
Murder drinking! Murder drinking!
Murder drinking! Murder drinking!

Alchemist (Sundown)
Are you scratching
At my backdoor
Have we played
This scene before
Let’s pretend
We don’t know what you’re here for
I can’t be your alchemist
Anymore
Sundown and you’re sick again
Howling under a broken moon
You’re spirit limps
But the flesh is strong
You don’t know
Right from wrong
Just go along
To get along
Life is short
But the night’s so long
Sundown and you’re sick again
Howling under a broken moon
You can earn
But you can’t save
You’re so sick
It makes you brave
Put a red light
On your shallow grave
If you’re drowning
You still make waves
Sundown and you’re sick again
Howling under a broken moon

Heart of Darkness

Heart of Darkness
All those generations
Burning in the sun
Doing for their masters
What slaves have always done
All of that potential
Squandered in the dust
Tears and sweat are flowing
But the machine won’t rust
Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness
Your body is your prison
Your mind is your curse
Don’t think about it too much
That only makes it worse
The story of your life,
Until your life is done
Keep your shoulder to the wheel
And don’t stare into the sun
Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness
A Tesla in the trenches
A Mozart in the mines
A Currie in the sweatshop
A Klimt on the front lines
How many generations,
Have lost their greatest minds,
To fuel the dark machinery,
That feeds upon mankind?
Heart of Darkness
